Oriēns Promise
The genesis of the collection was a trip to my homeland, where I explored the lives of family members I had only known as stories and photos. Oriēns Promise engages my past, my present, and my future, alluding to a story of proportion, the language of layers and beauty of lines. Inspired by a particular, vernacular radiating a Chinese sensibility, while embracing the desires and needs of a modern, occidental man.
Materials
To balance the mood of the collection the material range from soft organic cottons to structure wool such as Ombre cotton sateen, pima cotton, cotton stretch; boil wool for texture, light weight wool suiting, and machine knit Peruvian highland wool, silk knit, and double face wool knit. Unexpected lining is place as the inner structure of the garments.
Process
Construction and tailoring became an essential part of my process. Every overcoats and blazers are constructed with the illusion of layering and folding. The assembly of these garments consists of an outer layer that’s connected to an inner layer that becomes a unify garment and held together by lining. Lines are strategically place on the garment to create this “illusion”. The garments redefine the norm of men’s classic tailoring by adding in a third structure as well as being altered for the modern man. From the conception of this collection and initial inspiration, lines and proportions are dissected and reform through out the making process.
